30 Days of Dungeons and Dragons.

That’s right, 30 separate entries all about dungeons and dragons and bringing you new 4th edition content. So without further ado, here is Day 4.

Statues of Midday and Midnight

Description:

The Statues of Midday and Midnight are identical statues of the corrupted primordial Ssunjanu a fierce primordial associated with Time and pairs. It was only fitting that the key and lock to his prison was captured in two statues of him, one associated with Midday and the other Midnight. The Statues appear as two faced 6 armed demon gods each holding an Icon of either the sun or the moon. The Midday statue is made out of pure gold and The Midnight statue is made out of pure onyx, both enchanted to be supernaturally durable.

Goals of the Statues of Midday and Midnight:

The statues of Midday and Midnight, while part of the key and lock that keeps Ssunjanu imprisoned, also are part of him. The Midnight statues represents Ssunjanu after his fall, and as such wished to release Ssunjanu from his imprisonment. The Midday Statue represents Ssunjanu from before his fall, where although still a primordial, where he was far nobler and as such wished to prevent the release of Ssunjanu. The release of Ssunjanu requires for both statues powers to be activated, an event that can only happen if it is both Midday and Midnight at the same time. The Ritual of Perpetual Twilight accomplished that and as such is a necessary goal for either statue. The Statues have opposite goals listed here.

To Find/Hide the ritual of perpetual twilight

To Release/Contain the Great Primordial Ssunjanu

To Find and Defeat the other statue and any Allies they may have.

Role playing the statues of Midday and Midnight:

The Statues of Midday and Midnight both have the same personality, simply different goals. Like Ssunjanu the statues are prideful but reserved. The Statues speak in hushed tones that only their bearer can hear. If angered the statue will command its holder to do its bidding … or else. If please it will request and cajole as required.  The statues are constantly aware of each others position, regardless of the task, if it brings the statues closer together the Midday  statue will disapprove and the Midnight statue will approve.  Both statues always approve of killing servitors to the other statue.

Moving On

My work will be done, one day.

The Statues realize that the task of either freeing Ssunjanu or Preventing it from happening, has either happened and passed or is beneath the hero now.

The Statues disappear into the night or day as the case may be leaving behind a imitation statue if it was pleased. This imitation statue is either made of pure gold or pure jet, and is worth quite a bit.  If the Statues move on because it is unsatisfied it leaves behind either a tome of wise sayings , or a nest of vipers in its wake and the penalty to Ac or defenses remains as a curse upon you.

Freeing Ssunjanu

To free Sunjanu you must, effect the ritual of Perpetual Twilight, and then use each statues  pleased power. When this is done, the barrier between our world and Ssunjanu’s prison will drop and Ssunjanu will be free again. To Accomplish this each statue must have a pleased status and wish to use its power, which generally require that their bearer’s be fighting.

The Ritual of Perpetual Twilight.

By invoking the energies of both the sun and moon, motion and stillness, here and there, you create a bubble of unreality where anything is possible. The most convenient use of this ritual is to create a time where it is both Day and Night, Midday and Midnight. It is unknown who originally used to ritual or what for but since then it has been used on and off through out the centuries.

Level 6                        Component Cost: 100 gp

Catagory:Binding    Market Price: Varies but never more than 350 gp

Time 1 hours             Key Skill: Arcane

Duration: 1 hour.

By conjuring opposing pairs of mystical energy you weaken the bonds of reality and create an unspace to work your magic. This ritual was designed by cultists of the Corrupted Primordial Ssunjanu to free their evil god. In addition to casting this ritual both statues of Midday and Midnight must enter the unspace and use their special powers. If this happens and the bearer of the statue of Midnight prevails, Ssunjanu is let loose into the world. If this happens and the bearer of the statue of Midday prevails, this ritual can no longer be used to free Ssunjanu.

What if Ssunjanu is freed? ( Also known as my Pcs are antiheroes)

If Ssunjanu is freed, both of the statues are destroyed immediately and all rituals of perpetual twillight cease to work. Ssunjanu as lord of the Perpetual Twillight will bestow a boon upon his freer before going to battle the gods for all of creation. This boon may be a magical item , A wish, A true Answer, or something appropiate of the sort. Regardless the pcs gain Xp for a major quest if their goal was to Free Ssunjanu.

Anyone opposing Ssunjanu when he is freed is instantly and utterly consumed and unable to be brought back, ever.

Alternatively you may have the pc who bore the statue, advance to epic level if already close to them, and take the epic destiny, AVATAR OF SSUNJANU, and begin taking on the gods for Ssunjanu.

Avatar of Ssunjanu Power

Garden of Locusts                                          Level  26

Your time imprissoned has taught you much about the void between worlds… and how to use it.

Daily

Minor Action. Zone

You move yourself, the area and anyone within a mile of you to the space between  worlds. Inside this Demiplane the world continues normally. Anyone outside of the zone who later comes into it, is not affected.

Anyone exploring the area affected would find a simular area as to the zone originally but minus anyone who was originally affected by the zone. In addittion some features may have changed, for example if there was a town in the zone, there may be none there now. Alternatively a different town with different people may be there now.

Those inside the zone are trapped there until either the Avatar of Ssunjanu is defeated or the Avatar of Ssunjanu returns the entire zone back to its original location. Areas and people cannot be selectively left behind.  Surrounding the edge of the zone is a wall of force, a acidic fogbank, or some sort of barrier preventing escape.
